Artist Bram Vanesche donates to orphanage

Artist Bram Vanesche donatet 10% of his profits during his exhibition ‘Lieflijk cynisme’. The exhibion ran from september 10th until October 28th at the cultural centre Luchtbal, Colombiastraat 110, 2030 Antwerpen. Vernissage was on Friday September 9th at 8pm.

Open Ateliers  is an art project in the city of Antwerp. During Open Ateliers artists have an open house, showing their studios and work to visitors. During Open Ateliers 2011 nine art studios donated 10% of their profits to Dickey Orphanage through the art4life project. Soup contest

On August 20th 2011 the City of Antwerp organised the ‘Bollekesfeest’. Part of this culinary event was the ‘Soup of the City’, a soup contest for local organisations. Nine teams contested for the title Soup of the City. The goal was to decorate a stall, prepare 50 litres of fresh soup, promote your organisation, hand out the soup and clean up. All this in two hours time! With a team of volunteers we prepared a delicious banana soup with chicken broth, tomatoes, bananas and curry. We seemed to be running out of time, but in 10 minutes all 50 litres of soup were distributed! We took this opportunity to promote …

Nigel Williams’s stand-up comedy on November 27th

The Antwerp-based comedian Nigel Williams performed a stand-up comedy show on Sunday November 27th to help raise money for Dickey’s. The venue was COStA, Sint-Andriesplaats in Antwerp. We sold 60 tickets, postcards and calenders and raised about 1000 euro for the children.

Lies Lefever and Bas Birker for Dickey’s

On March 5th 2011, Belgian comedian Lies Lefever and Dutch comedian Bas Birker performed a stand-up comedy show to raise money for Dickey’s. The event took place at the Antwerp cultural centre CoStA at 8.30pm.

Trip to Shanghai World Expo

On September 1st, Amala and twenty-five children left for Shanghai. A monastery in Shanghai sponsored the five-day trip to the Shanghai World Expo. On returning to Dickey’s, everyone celebrated the childrens’ and the orphanage’s birthday on September 10th.

Dikey fundraising events in fall/winter 2009

During the fall and winter of 2009 several fundraising events took place in Antwerp, Belgium. In September, I took part in two flea markets selling old books and cd’s, clothes, tableware etc. that was donated by friends and family. One market was on the St. Andries square, the other on Antwerp’s left bank organised by a local radio station. In November, Alex Agnew, performed his stand-up comedy at the coStA culture house in Antwerp, Belgium. The concert was sold out in no time. Artist Bert Sarah donates to Dickey’s

to live like  tree

The Antwerp-based Dutch artist Bert Sarah will permanently donate ten percent of his art sales to Dickey Orphanage. He makes drawings with the famous BIC ballpoints only. With only blue, red, green and black available he manages to create a colourful and wonderous world on paper. This drawing is his interpretation of the famous words by the Turkish poet Nâzim Hikmet, “To live like a tree single and at liberty and brotherly like the trees of a forest this yearning is ours”.

Folk artist Willem Vermandere performs for Dickey’s

On May 9th and 10th the famous Belgian folk singer/songwriter Willem Vermandere performed at Theater aan de Stroom in Antwerp, Belgium for the local Spring fundraising event for Dickey’s. 237 people attented the wonderful concert. We collected 2000 euro for the orphanage.
