Hullo Friends,

I am a retired from university in Texas, USA and will be coming to visit your splendid city about Sept. 7-11, 2007. (Plans are not complete yet.)

I am writing to learn what your current needs are for the children. Also, may I be permitted to assist (volunteer) at any small job you may need for a couple of days while I am there? I can teach English or help cook or or clean…..teach American children’s songs, bring materials.

Please tell me what I might be permitted to do to assit the Dickey children while I am in Lhasa. This is the highlight of my venture there.

Sincerely,
(mrs) Nan Nelson

Dear Nan,
Thank you for your offer to help out the orphanage. I’ve forwarded your mail to Mama Dadhon because they need to answer your questions personally from Tibet. We only manage the website for them. We do look forward, however, to your story and pictures which we would like to publish on the Dickey website.
Warm regards,
Sarah

Our team from Innovative Humanitarian Solutions had the pleasure of visiting the Dickey Orphanage on July 22, 2007 and providing medical care, passing out stuffed animals and dental hygiene products, and playing with the kids. I can say for certain that we received the greater blessing by being around these kids. We hope that Innovative Humanitarian Solutions (www.innovativehs.net) will continue to work with Dickey to improve the lives of the children. Good luck on your new building!

I visited the Dickey orphanage 3 years ago & fell in love with all of the children, but especially a little girl who held on to my little finger & would not let go as we toured the facility. I would so love to know what has happened to her. I could send a picture of her (as an attachment)with my next e-mail.

I am very much pleased to see the effort being made to help the orphan children grow up in the Dickey’s Orphanage, Lahsa. A great job is being done by you.

I am attached to a similar orphanage of destitude tribal girls from poor background at Krishnanagar, West Bengal in India. It was started in eighties with three children and now the population has increased to 233 girl children. The plight of the institution called Ma Sarada Shishutirtha giving house to 233 children of the age of 8 to 14 years, is vry bad because of fund crisis. Although there is big plan to develop the Shishutirtha to an ideal one in respect of educating and giving vocational training to the inmates helping them to settle in life, unfortunately the institution now is not in a position even to feed and accomodate the inmates properly.
Under the circumstances, may I get some advice from you regarding contacts of sources for financial help for this orphanage. It will be a great help for the noble cause.

We collected the combs, toothbrushes and other amenities provided so freely by hotels to bring with us to the Dickey Orphanage in Lhasa. Of course, we also had other useful items and bubbles and finger puppets to please the children. The short visit was enormously satisfying. It will be my very great pleasure to offer what financial assistance I can in the future. Would that I could do more!!!!

Opps- also forgot to mention that I do a slide show on Tibet, trying to raise donations for the orphanage. I will do the slide show anywhere in the midwest states of the USA. You can request the show by emailing me at gear@downwindsports.com

Hello Bill, Thank you for posting in the guestbook. I wish you all the best with your projects to help the orphanage! There is also an American fundraising project for Dickey’s. Their website is http://www.tibetanorphanfund.org .

I just returned from a trip to China & Tibet where we visited the orphanage and got to see the new building going up. They’ve made huge progress. It was wonderful to see how much more room the kids will have. I can forward you photos if you’re interested in including them on your website. Please let me know where to send them.

We just returned from our China/Tibet OAT trip. We saw the new orphanage where they were finishing the painting and landscaping. we had not yet seen the present orphanage. The children there have not yet seen the new orphangae and wee can only imagine their reaction when they are moved.God Bless all the people involved.

I had just returned from my tibet trip on 31 Oct. It was such a memorable and unforgettable experience. During the journey to Gyaptse, I saw two lovely kids age around 8 and 6 years old. They are looking for someone to adopt them.Pls let me know if anyone know how I can help or sponsor these two kids for schooling in Tibet (they are not orphanage but came from a very poor family background)

Hi, we are some western mums who heard about the orphanage through Coca Cola Company in China. In the spring we sent 2 big boxes with clothes. We have not heard anything from the orphanage, so we wondered if the boxes ever arrived? We have tried to email the orphanage, but whithout hearing anytthing. How can we reach you?

Dear Kristin,
I’ve contacted the orphanage. They did receive the boxes but didn’t find the appropriate e-mail address to send a thank you note. They’ve asked me to thank you on their behalf. Thanks for your support! Sarah

Hello from Miami, Florida! My husband and I would like to help these little angels living in Dickey’s Orphanage. What a great thing this lady is doing! Can someone tell us how we could help? Is there such a thing as SPONSORING a child on a monthly basis? I would like to help in organizing this with someone who would be interested in helping these children. I can be emailed at:
havanasoul@aol.com
Thank you much!

By Bill Thompson on 31 Mar 2008 at 11:27 pm

I was just wondering if anyone has heard from the orphanage to see if they are alright?

By Connie Holland on 10 Aug 2008 at 6:01 am

I love what you are doing. I am a Friends of Tibet member here in New Zealand and I sponsor two Tibetan children through the Children’s Tibetan Relief Society. My heart goes out to all of you there at Dickey Orphanage. If there was ever a chance to adopt I would seriously consider to help you.

Dear Connie,
Thank you on behalf of the staff in Lhasa for your sympathy towards the children of Tibet. Adoption is indeed not an option at this time, nor is it the purpose of the project. The children live together as one big family in the new orphanage building. Donations will help to feed, clothe and educate them.

Had a wonderful visit to Dickey’s (OAT last July-Aug). Our guide said to send clothes, but the cost by UPS is in the hundreds of dollars. Would you rather have the cash or do you have a carrier that is less expensive? Is there an USA Email address? Pat

I would very much like to come and see the orphanage and help. Please let me know if this is possible and how I would go about it.

Very warm wishes to everybody

My wife & I visited the orphanage on our OAT trip to Tibet. We were touched by the children there & wanted to help. We sent a large box with various sized warm clothing and some toys/school supplies for the children about a month ago. We have not heard anything from the orphanage, although we included a letter with an e-mail address requesting an e-mail upon receipt of the items. Any idea how can we verify that the package was received by the orphanage?

Hi, I found your site through a Tibet travel agency! I am very interested in providing help for the orphans in Tibet ! Me and my friends are planning on a trip to Tibet in Late May 2009, and I wonder if it’s possible for us to visit the place, meet the children and even teach them english, donate them clothes, etc!! I’m from Hong Kong and we would love to do something good to people who need our help!! Please contact me through my email!!

Dickey Mouse was the creation of Alan L & Jude L back in the early 80’s. Dickey is what we coined as the mouse with an attitude from Jersey. When we developed the character, we wanted to create a cartoon with him, however “adult like cartoons” like the Simpson’s had not even been considered. Your orphanage sounds wonderful and we are pleased to know that good people care enough to help the children who so desperately need it. We just wanted to make sure that you didn’t infringe upon our copyright. What I am speaking about is your thought of the Dickey Mouse Club. I hope you understand and again no harm, just wanted you to be aware. Thanks for your time… Sincerely Alan DickeyMouse.Com

Explore.org, an online multimedia project that documents the selfless acts of others, visited the Dickey Orphanage back in 2006.

Check out this short clip, with the kids’ great rendition of “You Are My Sunshine.”

You can check out some nice pics, too, if you click on the Photos/NGO Profiles tab.

We had such a warm welcome to the orphanage during our recent visit in May 2009. The children seem very happy, and were excited to sing songs for the visitors as well as take us for hand-held tours of their facility. We inquired about adoption, and unfortunately the government does not currently allow adoption from private orphanages, and only to Chinese parents from public ones in Tibet. We would love to have that change someday! Until then we’ll send our support to our daughter’s Tibetan ’sister’.

By Rich on 10 Jun 2009 at 8:42 am

I am organising a trip to Tibet in July and would like to include a “service” element for my clients. Would it be possible and useful to visit the orphanage and help out for a day? What could we bring that you need that would help?

Many thanks,
Rich.

Hai there,
it’s a year now since I visited the orphanage. I see now that the project with the instant-camera’s are completed. The results are beautifull. What a joy to see that a small effort can do great things.

warm greetings to all children, and carring adults

Hello! I have had a trip booked from December 2009 - January 2010, but because of work circumstances must push the trip back to at least spring 2010. :(
However, I would love to come and visit when I do make the trip and I would love to donate items and funds from my family this winter! Can you send me some examples of items that the kids would like?
Thank you!

By admin on 29 Nov 2009 at 5:53 pm

Dear Meryl,

Thank you for your visit to the guestbook. It is quite costly to send boxes to the orphanage. Whenever I visit I bring along extra luggage with sunblock lotion and clothes for the children. Also, during my last visit to Lhasa Amala took me shopping for shoes for the children. They get discounts at the supporting stores and it is much easier and cheapier to supply them with stuff. If you would like to make a donation, you can use the bank account that you can find in the help section. I send the donations to them with moneywire whenever the amount is big enough. Thanks again for your support.

Hello Jan

Thanks again for helping us accomplish the camera project. There are indeed some wonderful pictures of the children. It was a great joy to visit them again last June.
