Dickey Orphanage

Soup contest

August 21st, 2011

On August 20th 2011 the City of Antwerp organised the ‘Bollekesfeest’. Part of this culinary event was the ‘Soup of the City’, a soup contest for local organisations. Nine teams contested for the title Soup of the City. The goal was to decorate a stall, prepare 50 litres of fresh soup, promote your organisation, hand out the soup and clean up. All this in two hours time! With a team of volunteers we prepared a delicious banana soup with chicken broth, tomatoes, bananas and curry. We seemed to be running out of time, but in 10 minutes all 50 litres of soup were distributed! We took this opportunity to promote the next stand-up comedy fundraiser with Nigel Williams. Some 250 flyers landed in eager hands. Quite some people wanted to know more about Dickey Orphanage. We did not win a prize, but we received an honourable mention. Thanks to our thrifty shopping, we managed to drop quite a few coins into Dickey’s piggy bank. Thank you very much to all the volunteers who helped to make it a great day and a lovely soup. Special thanks goes to the young princess of the kitchen who appeared out of nowhere to help us out. Thanks also to Benjamin who took the pictures. We had no time for that in the banana madness…
